DISCUSSION AND OUTLOOK ---------------------- At 500 PM HST (0300 UTC), the center of Tropical Storm Genevieve was located near latitude 22.6 North, longitude 131.4 West. Genevieve is moving toward the west-northwest near 15 mph (24 km/h). This general motion is expected to continue with some decrease in forward speed during the next two to three days. Maximum sustained winds have decreased to near 50 mph (85 km/h) with higher gusts. Slow weakening is forecasted through Saturday, with faster weakening expected starting Saturday night. Genevieve is forecast to become a post-tropical cyclone on Sunday night. Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 105 miles (165 km) from the center. The estimated minimum central pressure is 1000 mb (29.53 inches). HAZARDS AFFECTING LAND ---------------------- SURF: Swells generated by Genevieve are affecting portions of the Baja California Peninsula and Southern California. These swells will persist for the next several days, and are causing life-threatening surf and rip current conditions. Please consult products from your local weather office.
