DISCUSSION AND OUTLOOK ---------------------- At 900 AM MDT (1500 UTC), the center of Tropical Storm Celia was located near latitude 18.5 North, longitude 110.8 West. Celia is moving toward the west-northwest near 10 mph (17 km/h). A west-northwestward motion with a gradual increase in forward speed is expected through Tuesday. Maximum sustained winds are near 65 mph (100 km/h) with higher gusts. Gradual weakening is expected during the next several days, and Celia is likely to become a post-tropical remnant low by Monday night or Tuesday. Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 105 miles (165 km) from the center. An automated Mexican navy weather station on Socorro Island recently reported a wind gust of 46 mph (74 km/h). The estimated minimum central pressure is 994 mb (29.36 inches). HAZARDS AFFECTING LAND ---------------------- SURF: Swells will affect portions of the southwestern coast of Mexico, the southern Baja California peninsula, and the coast of west-central Mexico during the next few days.
