Ernesto's forward speed has dropped from 23 mph to 20 mph. It still needs to slow further but we can already see the results of the slower speed as Ernesto is able to fire up over the center without running out from under the convection.

Maybe the forward motion decreasing was the kicker like you mentioned. This is the best I've seen Ernesto look all day.

It's looking better Chris but it still needs to slow down a little more. Recon found west winds again which is why they made the VDM drop. When you see a VDM you know there is a closed surface circulation. The center is also under the convection. Ernesto has about 24 hours before it runs into the Yucatan.

Just took a look at the visible satellite and it looks like Ernie maybe moving a tad more northerly of due west. Could this impressive strengthening trend be enough to pull Ernie north of Honduras Lou Question Maybe stay over water a bit longer Question
